When the Europeans first arrived in Canada in the early 1600's; they spoke often of the feasts and celebrations of the Canadian people.

They celebrated the harvest, held ceremonies before and after a battle; at the birth of a child, the marriage of a couple in their community, or the passage to puberty of their young.

There was usually a feast and a dance; and various rituals to honour the particular event. As Christianity was brought to the country, most celebrations were in honour of various saints and of course; the birth and death of Christ.

Later immigrants brought their own traditions, eventually culminating in unique Canadian holidays and celebrations, not far removed from those held here for thousands of years. Only the technology changed.
